The Junior Choir is the beginning level choir for boys and girls from second to fourth grades. They perform a variety of musical styles and learn basic vocal technique and score reading. Senior choir mentors assist at this rehearsal helping junior choir members to learn rehearsal decorum, score reading and theory while establishing a strong bond between the two levels. The junior choir rehearse one hour a week. These rehearsals are full of fun activities to help young singers learn how to sing in tune, sing in different languages, sing in parts; feel and read simple rhythms and follow their parts in a choral octavo. The junior choir performs age appropriate music and performs in four concerts per year.
Rehearsals for the Junior Choir are held at Gloria Dei Church, Welsh Rd. and Huntingdon Pike., Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006 on Wednesdays 4:30-5:30PM.
The Senior Choir is an advanced choral program for girls and boys with unchanged voices in grades five through nine. This choir rehearses once a week after school to prepare repertoire for eight to ten concert programs throughout the year. Vocal technique, theory and music literacy training are a significant part of the program on this level. Senior choir members schedule individual theory sessions with the director before or after rehearsal several times during the year. This one-on-one attention helps each child to progress steadily in his or her musical development.
In addition, a special 3 level achievement program for musical excellence is available to all senior choir members and time is provided for individual work with the director on this program. The choir members who pass each level are presented with a medal which is worn with the choir uniform.
Rehearsals for the Senior Choir are held in two locations on different days. Families may choose the most convenient location for rehearsal.
